Knee Osteoarthritis Program

Often called “wear and tear” arthritis, osteoarthritis occurs when the protective cartilage on the ends of your bones wears down. Although osteoarthritis commonly affects active individuals and athletes over 60, a growing number of individuals in their 40s and 50s have knee pain from osteoarthritis due to wear and tear or injuries from sports and everyday life.

The good news is that until recently, extended relief from knee pain and stiffness caused by osteoarthritis could only be achieved with surgery. Our Knee Osteoarthritis Program is an effective alternative to surgery that can help reduce the pain, inflammation and stiffness of knee osteoarthritis.

Our program is supervised by our sports medicine physicians and orthopaedic surgeon. It offers a combination of non-surgical, medical and alternative treatment options to effectively manage knee pain and help you get back to doing the sports and activities you love.

  • Regain confidence to move freely
  • Delay or prevent surgery
  • Return to activities and sports
  • Reduce your need for medication

After a thorough medical history and physical exam (including referral for diagnostic imaging such as xrays or MRI if needed), our sports medicine doctor will recommend the best treatment options to help you achieve your goals. Treatment options include:

Viscosupplementation (HA)

Acupuncture treatment

Acupuncture can be an effective way to manage the pain and inflammation of arthritis. We have several practitioners that can provide acupuncture as part of your treatment plan

Running and Walking Analysis

We perform a systemic evaluation of the way in which you move with the use of video capture images while you walk or run. We identify and show you how to correct faulty mechanics that increase wear and tear on your knees and contribute to your pain.
