What is Orthopaedic Medicine?
Orthopaedic Medicine is a specialized area of medicine that assesses and treats injuries and conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system (i.e., the bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, etc.).
An orthopaedic surgeon can use surgery to correct injuries and conditions that cannot be treated with non-surgical methods such as physiotherapy, chiropractic, osteopathy and massage therapy, or medication.
What is an Orthopaedic Sport Medicine Physician?
Orthopaedic Sport Medicine Physicians are orthopaedic surgeons who have additional training in sport medicine. They have a very detailed knowledge and understanding of all treatment options including rehabilitative treatment such as physiotherapy or massage therapy, as well as injections, bracing, and of course, surgery if necessary. They can advise patients regarding the best treatment option for their specific injury or condition.
The orthopaedic sport medicine physician at PhysioPlus Health Group can review all treatment options with patients and will ensure that non-surgical treatment options have been considered prior to recommending surgery.
