Pregnancy is an exciting time of a woman’s life- unfortunately, for some, it can also be an uncomfortable experience as well. Many women suffer from pregnancy related low back pain, pelvic girdle dysfunction and pelvic floor pain. Fortunately, kinesiotape is a great way to alleviate some stress that the growing baby is putting on the low back, pelvis and pelvic floor.
How does it work?
There is limited research to show how exactly this application of kinesiotape helps, however many patients will report that it helps to provide support of the belly allowing for improved postural control and reducing strain on the low back. In general, research does show kinesiotape can help to improve the body’s natural healing process to improve blood flow and reduce pain, swelling and control inflammation.
What’s the catch?
Though it may feel like a great support, some say it is uncomfortable to take off – not to worry, apply some oil to the tape and it will come off much easier and with less discomfort! Otherwise, kinesiotape is water resistant and can be worn comfortably for 3-5 days.
Talk to your pelvic health therapist to try some kinsesiotape but also for more assistance with your pregnancy related low back pain!
