  1. Start Slow
Don’t make drastic changes and overdo it. Small changes can make a big difference over the long term, and you’ll be more likely to stick to it. Decide on one small change, like taking the stairs in the subway or at work, and make it a habit.
  2. Make it Fun
Make sure to choose an activity you enjoy. Exercise should leave you feeling energized – this will only happen if you like what you’re doing. Do you feed off the energy of others? Sign up for a fitness class or join a team. Do you like being outdoors? Try going for a walk. Want to be challenged? Consider working with a personal trainer.
  3. Be Creative
Think of 10 different ways you can work activity into your daily routine. Walk part of the way to work, walk to the store, or take the stairs instead of the escalator. Sneaking it into your day like this will make a difference – it all adds up!
  4. Plan Activity into Your Day
Build activity into your schedule and don’t let the craziness of life eat into your fitness time. Make room for fitness by scheduling it into your day.
  5. Don’t be Too Hard on Yourself
Don’t get discouraged and give up if you miss a day or two of activity. Just get back to it today and you’ll feel better in no time.
  6. Be Realistic
Whatever type of activity you chose make it something that fits with your schedule and lifestyle. If it’s too difficult to get to a gym, you’ll never go. If you hate running, you’ll never do it. Pick something you that is easy for you to do and you’ll be more likely to stick to it.
  7. Choose the Right Activity
Make sure you choose an activity that is appropriate for your body type, fitness level, and general health/condition. Not every body is built for running or high impact activities and sports, but everyone CAN get fit. If you’re not sure what to do or where to start consult a physiotherapist or personal trainer for advice.
