Is the cost of the braces covered by my insurance plan?

Most insurance plans will cover the cost of many of these kinds of braces. For custom made braces we can provide you with a written estimate which you can submit to your insurance company for approval prior to ordering the brace. Please call your insurance company to confirm your specific coverage for custom made and off-the-shelf braces.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

  • You do not need a referral in order to be assessed and fitted for braces. Your insurance company, however, may require a referral from a medical doctor in order for you to be reimbursed. Your family doctor can provide you with a referral, or you can book an appointment with one of our physicians (these appointments are covered by OHIP).
  • If you are unsure whether you would benefit from a brace, you can book an appointment with our sports medicine physician for an assessment (which is also covered by OHIP).

How long will it take to make my brace?

Fitting for braces is done onsite and can be done on the same day as your initial assessment if desired. Once fitted and ordered, the brace will be ready in 1-7 days (depending on the brace you require). For those without a confirmed diagnosis, tests such as x-ray or MRI may have to be ordered prior to fitting to determine the optimal custom brace prescription.
